gatheringatthewelllogo_web

  • Gathering@The Well meets on the first and third Wednesdays of the month
  • From 6.30pm to 7.15pm we meet in the Well Café – we join in a shared meal (& if you are able to, bring something to contribute to the table).
  • From 7.15 to 8.30pm we carry out our activity for the evening. Just join for this part if you prefer.

Wednesday 7 September: Broken into beautiful!
Join us for the evening as we turn “trash” into treasure; broken into beautiful. We will have a collection of broken objects, bits and pieces, left-over fabrics, ribbons etc. which may be seen as rubbish, ready to be thrown away and make them into beautiful things which you can take home. We begin looking at beauty from brokenness; how God knows our flaws and our “brokenness” but loves us anyway….We will continue with reflections on “brokenness” on 21st September.

Wednesday 21 September: Beauty from the dust…
We continue exploring “brokenness” and use the words of Gungor’s song Beautiful Things to shape our evening: “You make beautiful things from the dust, you make beautiful things out of us”. How God transforms our brokenness into beauty; values all we are, loves us for who we are. During the evening, we will reflect and explore how that may translate into our lives today.

Wednesday 5 October: Who are these neighbours we are denied to love?
Laurent Vernet who has spent time visiting the refugee camps in Calais will come to speak to us about his experiences.

Wednesday 19 Oct  –  Social action evening – Blythswood Christmas Shoebox appeal
Come and help us to pack shoe boxes with Christmas presents for children and adults in need. The shoeboxes received by Blythswood Care last year were distributed in Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Pakistan, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

Wednesday 2 November: Welcome, Wanted, and Worthy
Today we will hear from Martin Bethell, from The Bridge Community Project.   The Bridge Community Project aims to seek to provide practical and relational support to families and individuals in West Lothian and offers a free face to face confidential debt advice service.

Wednesday 16 November – Worship evening: ‘Sing a new song to the Lord’ – Why?!
Come and join us as we explore some new ways to worship, and learn some new worship songs.

Wednesday 30 November  – Pub Social Evening
including consideration of activities for the new year

Wednesday 7 December  – Christmas Around the World

Wednesday 21 December  – Christmas Pub Social
We’ll think about Christmas gifts, what’s the favourite gift you have ever received?

We meet  at:

Gathering Transition Celebration

During the last four years The Gathering have met in a number of different locations, and carrying out a wide range of activities, all centring around the five marks of The Gathering (Jesus + prayer +imagination + community + hospitality). We have been blessed with new friendships, yummy meals together, creative activities, ideas shared, and the opportunity to freely and openly discuss matters of faith. Recognising that The Gathering is made up of whichever group of people gather, we have attempted to be an ‘improv church’ reacting to the circumstances and thoughts that are important and central to the members of the group at any given time.

As we approach our fourth birthday, we have decided to pause, and reflect on what comes next for The Gathering, recognising that as an improv church, we should not be afraid to respond to our (ever-changing) circumstances. We will continue to meet during this time, aiming to continue our deep conversations, creativity and supporting one another in our faith journeys, but at the same time listening to where the Spirit is leading us, and staying alert to see where the door is opening for our next chapter.

To acknowledge this change in direction, we propose to hold a ‘Transition Celebration’ for The Gathering, to give thanks for all that has been, and to mark the commencement of the next chapter (whatever that may be) in our life as an ‘improv church’. We would like for as many people as possible to join us for this ‘closing’ evening on Wednesday 16th March, 6.30pm at The Dream Factory, CEMC, 25 Nicolson Square, Edinburgh EH8 9BX.

We would welcome conversation with anyone who has an interest in how the Gathering might develop in the future. Please come along on the 16th or otherwise get in touch with us if you’d like to be part of that discussion.

We’ll begin with a shared meal, please bring a contribution for the table.

Gathering Words

Wednesday 14th October, 7:45pm at the OutHouse, 12a Broughton Street Lane.

The Gathering presents an evening of poetry and spoken word with writer, poet and artist Ian Adams. Hosted by poets and storytellers Sarah Agnew and Lou Davis, this will be a rare night of creativity and vitality.

Our theme for October is based on the title of Ian’s book – Unfurling. We’ll explore the slow unfolding of the human spirit in story and stanza.

Contact us at info@gatheringedinburgh.com to sign up for one of our five minute open mic slots where you too can respond to our theme. Don’t feel you have to restrict yourself to poetry – if you’ve got a piece of art or a song or a joke that you think fits, bring it along. Open mic slots are limited and if you want to take part you need to let us know by email beforehand!

Let us know you’re coming by joining our Facebook event.

The Gathering book of Proverbs

A couple of weeks ago, the Gathering were at Heart and Soul, the Church of Scotland’s festival in Princes Street Gardens. As part of our contribution, we invited people to illustrate some of our favourite quotes and sayings, and we got some cracking responses.

We’ve compiled all your doodles into an eBook which you can download here:
